May 2015 Board Update

Here is a quick update of what has been going on in the IVAS office.
One nice discovery is that IVAS has a Facebook page under: “International Veterinary Acupuncture Society”, so all go and have a look!
Another that the dates of the congress of 2016 are set at 8-11 June in Tacoma, Washington state.
What is interesting too is to know that the congress of 2017 in Australia will probably be in the months of august, september or october, depending on the location. As it seems the choice at the moment is between Cairn, close to the Great Barrier Reef and Sydney, both places that makes one drool in anticipation!
- Halifax Congress planning is underway and the May issue of “The Point” has the Congress brochure combined again this year.
- We have sent out exhibitor packets and sponsorships for Halifax. Space is very limited this year.
- Congress Proceeding papers are being formatted by Sherrie in the IVAS office and edited by the Program Committee.
- The IVAS Facebook page is gaining momentum.
- Reminder that Congress for 2016 will be a joint with AAVA and be held in Tacoma, Washington June 8-11, 2016. Mark your calendars. We are waiting for the draft MOU to come back from AAVA. Speaker compensations if any will need to be approved by both IVAS and AAVA in advance of the call for papers.
- AVAG has suggested 2 locations for the 2017 Congress in Australia. Cairn which is close to the Great Barrier Reef and has good weather in August. Sydney the weather is still pretty cold so they suggested later dates for end of September/October if we want to go there. We will be putting together a Request for Proposal (RFP) with some proposed dates to send to hotels in both locations to see what can be offered in pricing.
- Registration opened up this month for the joint CE event with AAVA and IVAS in Fort Collins, Colorado with Dr. Linda Boggie on September 26th and Jessica Rychel on September 27th 2015
- The end of the IVAS fiscal year is next month, June 30th. We will start preparing for our annual review in July and August.
- The office was busy preparing for the first session of the US Basic Course in Richmond, VA.
- We are preparing the marketing year for the veterinary conferences to attend this year to promote IVAS.
- Membership renewals went out this month and this year there is an option to donate to the Grady Young memorial Scholarship fund. This fund will be used to provide scholarship money for IVAS courses. This is a restricted fund.
- This is the busy time in the IVAS office preparing for membership renewals, Congress and end of the year financials.
- Next year’s US Basic Course will be held outside of Kansas City, Kansas in the late Spring and Summer to provide an IVAS course to the Midwestern states an area we have not been to since the beginning of the courses in the 1970”s. We are working with Options for Animals Chiropractic College to use their facilities. Dates will be announced shortly.
